Other Site Characteristics

Fröjerum is situated in the southeastern part of the county Östergötland. The landscape surrounding the site is hilly with a large number of lakes situated in the crevices in the bedrock. The forest in the surroundings consist both of coniferous wood and deciduous forest. Fröjerum is situated at the western side of the lake Trihörn and include three different parts. The site consist of broad-leaved deciduous forest with Quercus robur, Tilia cordata, Acer platanoides and Populus tremula. The site includes three hills and on the top of the hills there are some Picea abies and Pinus sylvestris growing. In the whole area there is a lot of old trees and dead wood. In the area a very interesting flora of lichens have been found and probable there are a interesting fauna of invertebrates in the site too.

4.2 Quality and importance

The broad-leaved deciduous forests at Fröjerum have very high values with a lot of old trees, dead wood and interesting species of lichens. It is very probable that there are more species to discover in the site. The forests at Fröjerum have few similarities in the county Östergötland.
