Other Site Characteristics

Gamla Måla is situated in the community of Kisa in the southern part of Östergötland. The landscape is characterized by big crevices in the bedrock and the landforms are big. Gamla Måla is placed high in the landscape and the farm has old buildings. The pastures surrounding the farm are mostly dry because of the situation but there are also mesic and humid areas. The open pastures contains several different vegetationtypes . In some more wet areas there is a small stream with humid vegetationtypes. The flora in the site is very rich with complete dominans of species characteristic for meadows and pastures. Examples of species are; Crepis praemorsa, Hypochoeris maculata, Ajuga pyramidalis, Anntenaria dioica, Briza media, Heliantemum nummularia, Nardus stricta, Platanthera chloranta, Polygala comosa, Polygonum viviparum and Trollius europeaus. Large parts of the pastures at Gamla Måla have earlier during previous centuries been meadows used for hay-making.

Gamla Måla is a very valueable site with high botanical values in the speciesrich grassland. The number of species in the pastures are high. The grassland at Gamla Måla has few similarities in Östergötland.
