Other Site Characteristics
| Härsjö is situated in the southern part of Östergötland in a landscape dominated by woods but with farmingland opening up here and there in the woods. The farmingland at Härsjö is situated close to eastern side of the lake Åländern. The landscape is hilly and the soil consist mostly of moraine with large blocks. The soillayer in the natural grassland is mostly thin. The grassland at Härsjö consist of different kinds of pastures. The trees in the pastures are Betula verrucosa, Pinus sylvestris, Sorbus intermedia and in two of the pastures Quercus robur dominates. Different kinds of bushes are found in the pastures too. The flora of the pastures is rich with a lot of species telling that they have been grassland for a long time. Examples of species in the site are Gentianella campestris, Rhinanthus minor, Briza media, Nardus stricta, Polygala vulgaris and Helianthemum nummularium. Large parts of the pastures at Härsjö have earlier during previous centuries been meadows used for hay-making. |
