Other Site Characteristics

Restad is situated in the northern part of Östergötland in a landscape characterized by the large fault in the bedrock. This large fault is like a wall behind the village. North of the fault the landscape is dominated by wood while it south of the fault is dominated by farmland. The soil in the site consist of moraine and the soillayer is relatively thin. Restad contains a number of pastures which are dominated by pastures with Betula verrucosa. Other kinds of trees in the pastures are Quercus robur, Pinus sylvestris, Populus tremula and Alnus glutinosa. The bushes in the area Juniperus communis, Rosa sp, Sorbus aucuparia are examples. In connection to the lake Glan there is a small meadow. The site contains a large amount of vegetationtypes, dominating are dry and mesic ones. The species found in the pastures are many and most of them tell that the area has been used for grassing for a long time. Some old remnants are found in the site.

4.2 Quality and importance

Restad is a very valueable site with high botanical values in the speciesrich grassland. The number of species in the pastures are high. The grassland at Restad has few similarities in Östergötland.
