Other Site Characteristics
| NV Bogöl is situated in the southern part of Östergötland in a landscape characterized by large crevices in the bedrock which makes the surroundings hilly. In many of the valleys lakes are situated just as at Bogöl which is the name of the lake below the mountain which is the site. The bedrock in the area consist of granite.
NV Bogöl is a site with old taiga-forest that covers a whole mountain. The size of the wood is large to be in this part of the country. The southwestern part of the mountain is dominated by old wood dominated by Pinus sylvestris. Here and there dead wood are standing och lying on the ground. Some of the old pines are dying which is going to make more dead wood. Among the Pinus-forest also grov low Quercus robur and large Populus tremula.
The northeastern part of the mountain contains Picea abies-wood with a lot of hanging lichens. A lot of dead trees and large Populus tremula are found in this part. Some large Betula verrucosa and slowgrowing Quercus robur grow here too. Several interesting species of lichens and a valueable fungus are found in this part of the wood. |
4.2 Quality and importance
| The wood at NV Bogöl is a very valueable old taiga-forest. The forest covers a large area in comparison to other similar forest in part of the country. The flora of lichens and the amount of dead and old trees in the wood contribute to the very high value of the site. |
