Other Site Characteristics

The site Tvånget is situated in the southern part of Östergötland in a landscape characterized by large crevices in the bedrock which makes the surroundings hilly. Immediately south of the site Tvånget the lake Björkern is situated in a valley. The surroundings are dominated by wood but here and there one can find open lands around the farms. Tvånget is a variating site with a mountain-steep dominated by Pinus sylvestris in the south and a virginlike mixed coniferous-forest in the north. In the whole site, but more concentrated in the mountain-steep, slow-growing old oaks with a valueable flora of lichens are found. In the whole site there is a lot of dead wood. Several threatened species of lichens and fungus have been found. Due to the southern direction of the mountain-steep and the large amount of dead wood the possibilities of finding valueable species of insects are very good.

The site Tvånget is very valueable both because of its content of rare and threatened species and because of its size, which is unusual in this part of the country. In the county of Östergötland the site Tvånget has few similarities.
