Other Site Characteristics

Korphålorna (Raven hollows) - The nature reserve Korphålorna is situated in surroundings dominated by forest in the most southern part of Östergötland. The terrain is characterised by the shape of the bedrock, which is also visible in places. The nature reserve includes a large area with old coniferous forest of with a character of natural forest with minor elements of deciduous trees. Sections of the forest, which have been exposed to modern management are included in the northern part of the nature reserve. In the southern part, there is a canyon created by cracking in the bedrock. The southern part of the canyon descends abruptly down to the brook, which flows at the bottom of the canyon. A forest of virgin type grows on the northern side of the canyon. At some places in the forest some minor bog-lands can be found in hollows in the bedrock.

4.2 Quality and importance

The reserve of is a very important site as a rest of a original, uneffected coniferous forest. In the county of Östergötland only small areas of forests are not effected by forestry, but this is a relatively big area uneffected by forestry.
