Other Site Characteristics

Kushult meadow - Kushult village is situated close by the steep precipices along the shore of Lake Vättern in the very south-western part of Östergötland. The landscape is constituted by a mosaic of deciduous forest areas, natural grazing and meadowland plus fields. The ground which Kushult is situated on is a field of glacifuvial sediments perhaps from a glacial lake. The earth deposit is sandy to gravelly with elements of Cambro-Silurian rock. The grounds are quite softly hilly with rounded flat rocks exposed in places. By the village there is a hay-meadow and pollarded trees. The meadow, called Sakrisängen, is on the west side of the European highway E4, which cuts through the Kushult properties. The meadow is mostly moist and is completely open. There is a large number of hey-making indicator plants in the well-kept meadow, for example Scorzonera humilis, Briza media and Bistorta vivipara.

4.2 Quality and importance

Kushults äng is a very valueable site with a large number of characteristic species represented in the meadow. Kushults äng has only few similarities in Östergötland.
