Other Site Characteristics

Vesser's point nature reserve - is situated in the central parts of Östergötland, characteristic for its many oak trees, the so called oak landscape. The surroundings consist of a mosaic of grazing land, cultivated fields and woodlands. Oak is very common and adds the character to the landscape, both in pasturelands and woodlands. Vesser's point is situated on the eastern shore of lake Stora Rängen. The nature reserve includes one overgrown meadow, on waterside forest, and one small island. A grove-like vegetation with both deciduous and coniferous trees presently grows in the reserve since the management of the area completely stopped in the 1920s. Vessers udde have been closed to visitors since early 1920. This area is under scientific studie of the succession from a open pasture to a closed broad-leaved wood over the years. The public have no right to visit this area without a permisson from the County Board of administration in Östergötland.
