Other Site Characteristics

S:t och L:a Löpgöl - The area of S:t och L:a Löpgöl is situated in the southern part of Östergötland. The surrounding landscape is hilly and dominated by forest. S:t och L:a Löpgöl consists of an area with some 25 very old and hollow oaks. The supply of mulm (rests from the decay process consisting of woodpowder and small pieces of wood etc inside oaks) is very good in several trees. Several oak trees have a diameter of 1.5m at breast height. The oaks are spread around a farmhouse at an area of about 1 hectare (about 2.5 acres). At an inventory five red-listed lichens were found here, for example the urgently endangered Calicium quercinum (category 1) and the red-listed fungus Pachykytospora tuberculosa. At a beetle inventory 16 red-listed beetles were found (for example Procraerus tibialis and Velleius dilatatus, both placed in category 2) that are tied to oaks plus the red-listed hornet Vespra crabro and the moth Catocala sponsa. At the house Lugnet there is a minor area with several big oaks (about 10) with a character of overgrown pasture.

4.2 Quality and importance

Stora och LIlla Löpgöl is a site with a mixture of a sandy area with rich reptile-life and broad-leaved deciduous trees with a rich insect-fauna, many funghis and a number of lichens. Big oaks are the most common tree. The oaks are of different stages of age.
