Other Site Characteristics

Ryda scree is situated about 20 km east of Kisa. Old deciduous forest on which human has had only little impact, covers the screes and steep slopes. Tilia cordata, Acer platanoides, Populus tremulae and Quercus robur are the dominant treespecies. Old trees of Pinus sylvestris are common on top of the steeps. Dying and dead trees occur in large amounts. The old trees, rocks and boulders are rather rich in moss- and lichen species. A number of species in the Red Data Book over Swedish threatened species has been found, some in rich populations. It is likely that the insectfauna is rich as well. The flora and fauna of the area is poorly investigated.

4.2 Quality and importance

Ryda is a Key Biotop, discovered in this big inventory of the woodland nature-values in Sweden. A lot of species depending of old woods, climate factors, different stages of decaying wood and dead wood is found in these areas. Key biotop is the core-areas with potential to serve as sources to the surrounding forest-landscape, affected by modern forestry. Ryda have a lot of findings that confirm this areas high nature-value.
