Other Site Characteristics

This large and various island in the lake Dovern in Finspång county, contains of several valuable habitats. Ekön, or the "Oakisland" in English, have both open pastures, pastures with a few trees and shallow broad-leaved forests, mixed all together. There is also a lot of bushes of Corylus avellana, Juniper communis, Crataegus sp. and Rosa sp. Old, big Oaks is spread all over the island and there is also old trees of Tilia cordata and Fraxinus excelsior. The hermit beetle, Osmoderma eremita, has been found in this site, and there are also a number of rare lichens growing on the oaktrees.

4.2 Quality and importance

High nature values connected to the oaks with rare lichen flora and also a beetle fauna, with Osmoderma eremita. The pastures are also valuable and spans from very wet to dry habitats with different compositions of herbs and grass-species.
