  • NP: in case that a habitat type no longer exists in the site enter: x (optional)
  • Cover: decimal values can be entered
  • Caves: for habitat types 8310, 8330 (caves) enter the number of caves if estimated surface is not available.
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation)

3.2 Species referred to in Article 4 of Directive 2009/147/EC and listed in Annex II of Directive 92/43/EEC and site evaluation for them

  • Type: p = permanent, r = reproducing, c = concentration, w = wintering (for plant and non-migratory species use permanent)
  • Unit: i = individuals, p = pairs or other units according to the Standard list of population units and codes in accordance with Article 12 and 17 reporting (see reference portal)
  • Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics

The Holkaberg area is located in and along the steep slopes of the eastern shores of Lake Vättern in Ödeshög municipality, in the south-west part of the County of Östergötland. These steep slopes generally have very high nature values and Holkaberg is one of the parts that are considered most valuable. The area is roughly consists of equally large parts of old-growth coniferous forest rich in deciduous trees, old-growth oak forest and grazed coniferous forest rich in deciduous trees. Except of 1 ha field and 3 ha younger forest the whole area consists of forest with the quality of Woodland Key Habitat. Old trees and coarse woody debris of different tree species are very frequent throughout the area. Striking is the generally large abundance of pendulous lichens on the twigs. The grazed forest has a very ancient character, rich in gaps and old trees/coarse woody debris and old hazelbush and with some pollarded trees. The vascular plant flora is generally rich in herbs, due to the fertile soil. The area is probably very rich in Red Data book species of for example lichens, mosses, polypores, Agaricales, beetles and molluscs. The area is also favourable for woodpeckers.

4.2 Quality and importance

The slopes by the lake Vättern are of national interest in nature. This site, Holkaberg, is a very good representative of this area of the eastern coastline from the city of Jönköping in the south to the city of Ödeshög in the north. There are a lot of decideous forests with a special climate, which gives a great number of species a unique and prosperous place to live in. Fore example the mollusc Ena montana and a number of lichens and other humid-dependent species.
