Other Site Characteristics

Trulstorpet deciduous forest is situated about 10 km south of Åtvidaberg. Old deciduous forest covers the siliceous nutrient rich moraine slopes and hills. The area is rich in mosscovered boulders. Populus tremulae, Tilia cordata and Acer platanoides are the dominant treespecies. Birch and black alder occur rather frequent in the wet parts. Dying and dead trees occur in rather large amounts. The old trees are rich in epiphytes and the dying and dead trees are rich in woodrottening fungi. The area has been used as grazeland. Some species in the Red Data Book over Swedish threatened species has been found although the flora and fauna is almost uninvestigated. The lichenflora, fungusflora and insectfauna are expected to be rich.

4.2 Quality and importance

Trulstorpet is a Key Biotop, discovered in this big inventory of the woodland nature-values in Sweden. A lot of species depending of old woods, climate factors, different stages on decaying wood and dead wood is found in these areas. Key biotop is the core-areas with potential to serve as sources to the surrounding forest-landscape, affected by modern forestry. Trulstorpet have a lot of findings that confirm this areas high nature-value.
