Other Site Characteristics

The site Yxefall is 6 km north of the City Kisa in Kinda County in the southern parts of Östergötland. Yxefall lies in a valley with several small lakes, fields and pastures in the middle of farming and forestrylandscape. The pasture is a big slightly hilly eastfaced pasture with some bushes and trees, but rather open. The pasture is very rich of different vegetationtypes, from very dry ones to relay humid and wet ones. This gives a big variety of herbs and insects in this site. Between 35-40 grazing and meadow-depending species have been found in this area. Some of these species is very frequent too! Brizia media, Anthennaria dioica, Nardus stricta and Scorzonera humilis is just a handful of herbs that prosper in Yxefall. The butterfly fauna in this pasture is probably the most species rich one in Östergötland. Several species of Zygaena sp. have been found in this pasture. These butterflies and the many species of herbs give unique naturvalues to this site.

4.2 Quality and importance

Yxefall is a very valuable site with a large number of characteristic species of herbs and a number of threatened species of butterflies represented in the pasture. Yxefall has only a few similarities in Östergötland and is on the list of the national conservation plan for the agricultural landscape.
