Other Site Characteristics

Kvismaren is situated in a very plane and fertile agrcultural landscape. The two lakes were partially drained more than 100 years ago and the former lakes became mostly reeds. the area is now restored and consists of large wet meadows with grazing cattle, decidous forests, reeds and open water.

4.2 Quality and importance

Kvismaren is an internationally important wetland, a Ramsar site, important not only as a stop-over site but also as a nesting site. It´s wellknown among other things for the large amount of geese and cranes that stops here during migration.Kvismaren is also a important site for hibernating snakes.
