Jordlagret utgörs av en relativt blockrik morän på berggrund av granit. Terrängen är flack. Objektet är beläget längs Alsterån. Substrat och strukturer som gamla träd, stora ädellövträd, död och döende träd, på naturligt sätt tillkomna stubbar etc. är vanliga i objektet och de är av stor betydelse för många växt- och djurarter. In englishThe soil is a relatively boulder rich morain on a granite bedrock. The terrain is flat. The site is situated along the river Alsterån. Substrate and elements, such as old trees, large broad-leaved deciduous trees, dead and dying trees, natural stubs etc., of great importance for many animal and plant species, are common.

Huvudsyftet med Flasgölerum från naturvårdssynpunkt är bevarande av följande kvalitéer, strukturer, processer:att bevara naturskogsartade skogar och våtmarker längs Alsterånatt skydda och bevara den höga diversiteten och komplexiteten av olika biotoper och vegetationstyperatt bevara och skydda höga naturvärden knutna till naturskogsartad skog med hög koncentration av död ved och mångfald av habitat förbundna med varandra.
