  • NP: in case that a habitat type no longer exists in the site enter: x (optional)
  • Cover: decimal values can be entered
  • Caves: for habitat types 8310, 8330 (caves) enter the number of caves if estimated surface is not available.
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation)

Other Site Characteristics

The site Brattforsheden covers an area of a vast marginal delta with well-preserved glacio fluvial deposits from the last glaciation, including sandy delta plateaus, end moraines, eskers, dead-ice hollows and vast areas of eolic deposits such as loess plains and sand dunes. The sandy soils harbours a great variety of specialised animals and plants, with 30 species on the national red list. The sites fauna of some sandliving groups of insects is the most diverse in Sweden. The population of the lizard, Lacerta agilis, here is genetically distinct from other population and can - as probably many of the sand insect populations - be regarded as relict populations from the atlantic era. The pine forests today covering the deposits are commercially managed, but with restrictions to protect the geological, social and most important natural values of the area. Parts of the forest are protected from forestry. Both the bogs and the lakes of the area - the large oligotrophous lakes Alstern, Lungen and Mången as well as the many small dystrophic ones - have practically undisturbed hydrology. Due to favourable mineralogy the lakes have resisted the acid precipitation and maintain an intact chemistry. The small running water Svartån (Habitat 3260) is approximately 11 km.

4.2 Quality and importance

Rich and/or genetically unique populations of sandliving animals and plants, such as Lacerta agilis and many redlisted insects. Well-preserved examples of lakes and bogs formed in different glaciofluvial deposits. Undisturbed hydrology of lakes and bogs. Water chemistry little affected by acid precipitation.

No

6.3 Conservation measures (optional)

Only a little part of the forest in the site is protected from sylviculture. Controlled burning of forest is used in small areas, because of suppression of natural fires. Some areas with 2320 have been restored and some more areas will be restored in a couple of years.
