Other Site Characteristics

The mountain Näcksjövarden consists of porphyry and is situated at 721 metres above sea level. The forest is lushy, with a lot of large spruces. Some of the species are alpine species. To the north of the mountain the lake Näcksjön lies, surrounded by a landscape of mires and forests. Fellings have been done at the turn of the century. The largest trees where then taken down. Here and there, some dead standing trees can be found. The area with mires is large, and it has not been affected by drainage exploitations. The area has a beautiful scenery with the mixure of mires and forests at the slopes down to the lake Näcksjön.

4.2 Quality and importance

The forest in this area has developed natural and is not so much affected by human encroachments. By this, the characteristics which distinguish a naturally regenerated forest does exist, namely a richness of coarse trees, dead trees and old windthrows, and those species who belongs here. These circumstances are very unusal in the forest land of today, and many of the species which will be found here are rare, redlisted and threatened. This gives the area very high values. The mires are untouched, which gives the area even higher values.
