Other Site Characteristics

Along the stream Brötjärnaån, a ravine has developed. In the higher part of the ravine there is a young deciduous forest consisting of alder, willow and birch. In the field layer there are a lot of flowers usually growing in meadows. To the near of the stream the land is waterlogged and species belonging to wet grounds is growing there. In the lower part of the ravine, an older deciduous forest is growing. Birch and grey alder is dominating, but mountain ash, spruce and sallow also occur. The forest is old-growth like, with trees in different ages and with a lot of old windthrows and dead wood.

4.2 Quality and importance

The forest in this area has developed natural and is not so much affected by human encroachments. By this, the characteristics which distinguish a naturally regenerated forest does exist, namely a richness of coarse trees, dead trees and old windthrows, and those species who belongs here. These circumstances are very unusal in the forest land of today, and many of the species which will be found here are rare, redlisted and threatened. This gives the area very high values.
