Other Site Characteristics

The site consists of a coniferous forest with two small lakes and a mite on a gently ondulating moraine ground. High soil quality as a result of movable soil-water has made good conditions of a remarkably tall spruce-forest in the slopes south of Stora Ensjöloken.

4.2 Quality and importance

The forest is undisturbed and representative for the area. Parts of the forest are marked by fires and the oldest survived trees are 300-400 years old. Many of these are dying and there are a lot of dead trees in the site. High soil quality as a result of movable soil-water has made the conditions of a remakably tall spruce forest in the slopes south of Stora Ensjöloken. At least four nationally redlisted and many other rare species of insects and flora connected to natural old forests have been found in the site. There are good conditions for hole-nesting birds as well as mammals and an invertebrate fauna dependent on old and mouldering wood. Ensjölokarna is of national interest to environmental care.
