Other Site Characteristics

The site is the delta of the river Testeboån and the innermost part of the Gävle bay. Along the river and on the small islands in the river there is an Alnus glutinosa forest with a notably rich bird-life. The coastal meadows is a small rest of the formerly very large coastal meadows which characterized the shores of the Gävle bay and which were known for their rich bird-life.

4.2 Quality and importance

This is one of the best examples in the county of the coastel meadows and just a rest of the formerly wide-spread coastal meadows at the the Gävle bay. The meadows were used for hay-making untill 1950 - 1960. Today a part of the site is grazed by horses. The deciduous forext along the river Testeboån has a very rich bird fauna. More than 70 bird-species are breeding in the site and Dendrocopos leucotos and Ficedula parva have been observed.
