Other Site Characteristics
The site is situated in Norrlands southern mountainous country where morain is the dominating soil type and small mires usually caraterizes the lower parts. The morain is in general heavily surged especially at the exposed easterly slopes. |
4.2 Quality and importance
A site rich of deciduous trees, important to especially woodpeckers and other birds dependent on cavities for breeding.
Långbro Nature Reserve is the central part of the LIFE-project Långbro.
The site, with a long history of forest fires, is caracterized of an unusually high element of deciduous trees especially aspen and birch, much higher than what usually is found in the Swedish taiga. Large areas in the site are totally dominated by deciduous trees young as well as old. The forest with lots of dead trees and trees in different degree of degradation has made conditions for an interesting flora with several redlisted fungi and lichens.
There are also good conditions for birds, especially woodpeckers and other birds dependent on cavities made by woodpeckers. There must be noted that the bird-species listed choose different breeding places from year to year among the large number of valuable habitats within the LIFE-site and that the Nature Reserve, is the most valuable part of the LIFE-site. |

6.2 Management Plan(s):
An actual management plan does exist:
6.3 Conservation measures (optional)
The main purpose with the management will be to maintain the high content of deciduous trees to favour the specific flora and fauna in the site. Långbro might be one of the nature reserves where burning of the forest or parts of the forest will be the most important element of the management. |
