Other Site Characteristics

Gnarps Masugn is a point of land situated in a very exposed position at the shoreline in the nothern part of the county. The morain ground has been heavily surged by the sea and formed extended gravel fields rising in steps from sea level demonstrating the fast upheaval of land.

4.2 Quality and importance

Gnarps Masugn is the somewhat irrelevant name of this site which is totally free from all constructions by man except several burial-mounds from the Bronze Age. The site is important for the understanding of the processes connected to land upheaval and erosion. The older parts of the gravel fields, where the effects of the sea are small, is covered with a thin short pine-wood which gradually grows into an ordinary coniferous forest.Even though Gnarps Masugn, due to the bouldery and rough ground, is not easily accessible, it is very important to the picture of the landscape and to out door life.Gnarps Masugn is situated within a larger area of national interest to environmental care.
