  • NP: in case that a habitat type no longer exists in the site enter: x (optional)
  • Cover: decimal values can be entered
  • Caves: for habitat types 8310, 8330 (caves) enter the number of caves if estimated surface is not available.
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation)

3.2 Species referred to in Article 4 of Directive 2009/147/EC and listed in Annex II of Directive 92/43/EEC and site evaluation for them

  • Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics

Ista is a part of the River Dalälven area including "Istaön" which is a part of the more than 300 km long esker Enköpingsåsen, in this part mostly named Årsundaåsen. The esker is dominated by coniferous forest. The bordering tungues of land are characterized of coniferous forest, bogs and fens. There is a large season-bound flooding in spite of some power plants in the upper parts of the river. The site is covered by the special provisions in the Swedish EnvironmentalCode, Chapter 4 on management of land and water for certain areas in Sweden: provisions on prohibition of exploitation for hydro-electricity purposes(Chapter 4, § 6 in the Environmental Code). There is no code (protectiontype) available under field 5.1 to register this kind of general protection.

4.2 Quality and importance

The River Dalälven area is one of the most interesting parts of central Sweden because of the very special and spectacular nature. River Dalälven at Ista is known as an important stage for birds ie Cygnus cygnus.Ista is of national interest to environmental care. It is promoted as a Ramsar Wetland area and it is proposed to be a Nature Reserve. It is bordering to Färnebofjärdens National Park. One of the largest grave-fields in the county is to be found on the esker Enköpingsåsen.Istamyran is included in The Plan for Protection of Mires i Sweden.

6.3 Conservation measures (optional)

The plan for the management of the nature reserve to come brings out that some parts is intended to free development while other parts are dependant on different forms of management. In some part of the nature reserve general forestry, or nature-conservation oriented forestry might be permitted. The regularly flooded riverside meadows have formerly been indispensible for hay-making, an activity there is no need of today. To prevent these riverside meadows from beeing overgrown with bushes and broad-leaved trees regular hay-making is necessary.
