4.2 Quality and importance

Lake Stensjn is a natural dystrofic lake with moderately coloured water, nutrient poor with weak buffering capacity. The bottom fauna is rather rich in species, among others the mayfly Ephemera vulgata and the riffle beetle Oulimnius spp. indicating oxygen rich and non-acidified conditions. The fish population is dominated by pearch, pike and roach. Since 1984 Lake Stensjn is a reference lake in the Swedish National Monitoring Programme.
