Other Site Characteristics

The site Taskberget is a small natural forest. The area consists mostly of mixed forest where spruce dominates. In some parts there are large amount of deciduous trees. The site includes also some small patches of pastures. The site is very herb-rich, especially in the western parts. For long time cattle were grazing in the western parts of the forests. This is probably a reason for the high diversity of herb spices in these parts of the site. There are also small patches of former clear felled areas in the site where there are young succession of mixed forest with a large amount of deciduous trees.

4.2 Quality and importance

The forest is rich of valuable structure connected to a natural forest as trees of different age and high abundance of dying and deed trees. A lot of threatened species of national interest is found in the area. Many of these spices have a connection to the abundance of old deciduous trees.

6.3 Conservation measures (optional)

The aim of the management will be to favour flora and fauna dependent on old growth forests with trees of different age and plenty of dying and dead trees but also the flora and fauna that is dependent of deciduous trees in different stages. Most of the area is intended to free development. In order to favour deciduous trees selectively cuttings of spruce in the area where there are young succession of mixed forest can be permitted. In order to favour the herb-rich flora forest grazing could take part in the parts of the site where cattle grazing have taken place in historic time.
