Other Site Characteristics

The Holmöarchipelago are the only larger group of islands in an otherwise island sparse area. Land uppheaval coast with stone fields. The islands demonstrates typical examples of the continous vegetation developement from seabottom to land vegetation. Oldgrowth coniferous forest dominated by spruce with scattered Pine. Some areas also consist of deciduos trees, such as birch, aspen and sallow. Vaccinium myrtillus type is the dominating vegetation type. Patches with mire runs through the site. The forest is stratified and has a heterogenus age structure. Dead trees and deadwood are common.

4.2 Quality and importance

The Holmö islands are important as the archipelago as it is. The vegetation are multifold and several plant and animal groups is represented here. The animal life is favoured by the areas undisturbeness.
