Other Site Characteristics

The consultation area is made up of an old domänreservat, an old type of nature reserve instituted by a formerly state owned company. The site is situated on a gentle slope facing south-west. The forest is partly wet and fertile with a herb-rich vegetation in parts..The stand is made up of oldgrowth forest, dominated by spruce with scattered very old pines, around 300 years or more. Signs of previous forest fires were noted in old tree stumps.

4.2 Quality and importance

The main qualities of the area are the richness of the site with the existence of the orchids such as (Calypso bulbosa) and the oldgrowth forest status. Most habitats of this kind has already been exploited by forestry, it is therefore of vital importance to protect a number of these areas to secure the species and to strengthen the ecological network of protected forests of high productivity.
