Other Site Characteristics
The reserve is situated on a slope facing northwest, a part of the mountain Kuottavare. The upper areas consisting sparce growing sprucedominating forest with some contribution of pine and birch. Older loggings has reduced the amount the share of pinetrees, but still there are some overaged stands and dry trunks. It is possible that the slopes would have an more open character without the selective loggings due to cold climate. The contribution of birch increases against the nothern part with characters of mountainbirchforest. The slope, on the notherns side of the road crossing the area, are impressed by movable groundwater coming up the groundsurface. These areas has a very lush flora, entriched by fallen logs of different ages. There are many polypore-species, depending on long continuity of natural fallen ded trees, visible mainly on the sprucelogs but also on ded wood from birch and aspen. The fieldvegetation is characterised by low herbtypes. Against the nothern borderline there are a bog and a smaller field of erratic boulders. |
4.2 Quality and importance
Granberget contains sloping areas mainly covered by primeval Western taiga and Fennoscandian herb-rich spruceforests with high amounts of as well standing as naturally fallen ded wood . Very high frequences of orchidplant Calypso bulbosa, nearly 200 has once been counted, but also the unusual white form of the plant Viola montana. |
