Other Site Characteristics

The reserve is representing the forestcovered lower sloping parts of the mountain Långträskberget and the wetland below. Mixed forest of spruce and forest and pine with contributions of birch and sallow with fresh shrubtype in the fieldlayer is dominating. The forest is powerful and is characterised of often very coarse dimensioned pines and spruces. Trees from the younger generation are growing in between, but the stands are in general in a late succession and there are only a few burningsigns. Logs and dry trunks are relatively high frequenced all over the area. Naturally fallen sprucelogs are dominating, but also pine- and birch are represented. Older selective loggings has probably reduced the share pinelogs. There are though only very small affects from the forestry in the area and the area has marked characteristics of natural forests. Many of the continuity-depending treefungus has been visible on sprucelogs and trees of all kind in the area is overgrown by hanging lichens indicating long continuity of trees. Largest abundance of sallows are at the connecting border to the bogland in the lower parts. These seems to be very old due to the high frequencies of naturally fallen logs surrounding these trees. Many of the sallows are housing high abundances of special lichenspecies indicating mixed forest with very high values of nature.

4.2 Quality and importance

Långträskberget comprises late burning-successions of Western taiga with natural characters, unusual in the modern forestry areas, with some trees of 450-500 years and good supply of ded wood supporting many continuity demanding red-listed polypore- and lichen-species.
