  • Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics

The site supports a rich avian fauna such as Falco columbarius and Philomachus pugnax. The site is on the list of Convention of Wetlands. The site partly overlaps the site Laisdalens fjällurskog. The area of Tjålmejaure and Laisdalen consists of two converging valleys. The water courses of both valleys join to form a delta in lake Yraf. The southern valley has many lakes with shallow shores which are important breeding sites for birds. The northern valley, Laisdalen, is one of the most wild life abundant valleys in the Swedish mountain area. The area is an important breeding and staging area for a large number of birds.

4.2 Quality and importance

Tjålmejaure is one of the most wild life abundant areas in the Swedish mountain area. The avian fauna consists of a large number of breeding and staging birds such as Falco columbarius, Gavia arctica, Pluvialis apricaria, Gallinago media and Philomachus pugnax.
