Other Site Characteristics

Complex of ilirian beech hornbeam forests in lowland in the souther part of Slovenia. Caves, Krupa karstic spring (locality for Congeria kusceri) and Krupa river (tributary of the Lahinja river).

4.2 Quality and importance

Well preserved and managed forest complex, good example of that forest type in this part of the region (representativity). Small karstic system, largest water source in Bela Krajina karst area, the only known locality for Congeria kusceri. Proteus anguinus populations. Near the Krupa spring there was a waste deposit area which led to the PCB pollution.
