Segment of the Soea river from site 'Julijske Alpe' till Kobarid with left tributary Volarija.

4.2 Quality and importance

Soea is one of the five preserved alpine rivers. This segment is complementory to the upper part, included in another site. Quite natural conditions for river ecosystems, dynamic processes are still in place. Well developed riparian vegetation, habitat of Cottus gobio, Barbus meridionalis, Barbus plebejus, Leuciscus souffia and Salmo marmoratus. Left slopes above Soea are rich with extensive grasslands and beech forests. Tributary Volarija is one of the very natural and remote places in this valley.
