Območje je del nizkega dinarskega krasa, za katerega je značilna visoka stopnja vertikalne razčlenjenosti v obliki številnih vrtač. Območje obsega prepletajoče nižinske ekstenzivno gojene travnike ter polnaravna suha travišča in grmiščne faze na karbonatnih tleh z rastišči kukavičevk.
