Other Site Characteristics

The site includes lowland part of the Dravinja valley. Dravinja river is one of the few Slovenian rivers that has not been regulated in its whole course and has partly maintained its natural river curse. It is characteristic by numerous meanders and sandy riverbanks. Moreover, the river has preserved its typical river dynamics with regular spring and autumn floods. In the Dravinja valley many low input meadows can be found.

4.2 Quality and importance

The meadows are important feeding place for Ciconia ciconia, this site is the second most important holding 8% of Slovene stork population. A river curse is important as a breeding site for Alcedo atthis (5%).
