  • Group: A = Amphibians, B = Birds, F = Fish, I = Invertebrates, M = Mammals, P = Plants, R = Reptiles
  • S: in case that the data on species are sensitive and therefore have to be blocked for any public access enter: yes
  • NP: in case that a species is no longer present in the site enter: x (optional)
  • Type: p = permanent, r = reproducing, c = concentration, w = wintering (for plant and non-migratory species use permanent)
  • Unit: i = individuals, p = pairs or other units according to the Standard list of population units and codes in accordance with Article 12 and 17 reporting (see reference portal)
  • Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics

The site represents the Slovenian stretch of Mura between Austria and Croatia in the eastern part of Slovenia. Seasonal flooding creates a characteristic landscape with numerous natural features, from gravel riverbanks to dense marshlands to old meanders along the stretches of the river, as huge alluvial forests. Erni log is the largest Alnus glutinosa forest in central Europe. It is dense and uninhabited. More than 40% of the site is covered by riverine forests and 15% with wet meadows, usually mixed with bush and forests. Because of the danger of flooding, dikes have been built along the riverbanks. Mura river meadows, wet grasslands, flood-plain and forests remain relatively intact, but cultivated fields and grasslands are intensively managed.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site supports important breeding numbers of species that are typical of flooded forests, meadows and riverbanks. It is the most important Slovene area for Ixobrychus minutus (50% of the Slovene pop.), Porzana porzana (50%), Porzana parva (50%), Ficedula albicollis (30%), Dendrocopos medius (30%), Ciconia nigra (20%), Ciconia ciconia (20%), Alcedo atthis (15%) and Pernis apivorus (10%).
