  • Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics

This Spa comprises of the southern edge of the Trnovo forest and the Nanos Plateau. These two high Dinaric plateaus fall from over 1.000 m a.s.l. to the Vipava valley, ca 100 m a.s.l. In some places on the upper edge of the plateau, the typical steep, even precipitous rocky terrain changes into extensive and mostly abandoned dry meadows. Thermophile forest grows on the slopes above the valley.

4.2 Quality and importance

The area is very important for birds that nest in rocks: Circaetus gallicus (30% of Slovene population), Falco peregrinus (10%), Alectoris graeca (20%) and Bubo bubo (10%). It is the most important site for migrant Gyps fulvus in Slovenia.
