Other Site Characteristics

The site comprises of the eastern part of the Karavanke and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. It encompasses mountain ranges with peaks, glaciers valleys and plateau. Most of site is covered with predominantly coniferous forests (77%), while its highest parts above the tree line (extending on ca. 15%) reach up to 2.558 m. the complexes of Pinus mugo.

4.2 Quality and importance

Preserved forests support the most important breeding area for Glaucidium passerinum (25% of Slovenian pop.) and Tetrao urogallus (20%). Habitats above tree line are important for Tetrao tetrix (20%) and Lagopus mutus (20%).
