Other Site Characteristics

Območje Čret obsega Zadrževalnik Medvedce in okoliške gozdne otoke, kjer gnezdijo velike ujede. Vodni zadrževalnik Medvedce leži na južnem robu Dravskega polja vzhodno od Slovenske Bistrice.

4.2 Quality and importance

Zadrževalnik Medvedce je izjemnega pomena za ptice, ki jih je bilo tukaj opaženih že preko 150 vrst. Črete so eno izmed petih najpomembnejših območij v Sloveniji za tri vrste gnezdilk: čapljico, kostanjevko in grahasto tukalico. Od pozne jeseni do zgodnje pomladi se na zadrževalniku zadržuje več tisoč ptic, med njimi tudi redke kot so npr. ribji orel, žerjav in velika bela čaplja.
