Other Site Characteristics

The site is a part of the geomorphological area of Záhorská nížina lowland, unit Borská nížina lowland and several subunits (Dolnomoravská niva, Myjavská niva, Záhorské pláňavy, Podmalokarpatská zníženina, Novoveská plošina and Gbelský bor). In the northern part it is interfered also with the area of Juhomoravská panva basin, unit Dolnomoravská niva alluvium. The site belongs to a geo-ecological type of an intramountain land in a lowland zone. It is fluvial lowland with hydromorfic soils and hydrophilous and water vegetation (Morava and Myjava alluviums). Eastern part of the site is waved eolithic-fluvial lowland with regosols and psamophyte vegetation. Soils: alluvial fluvial sediments, blown sands, eolithic sediments. Forests are represented with woods of a first vegetation stage that belongs to a complex of alluvial forests of Morava River. Partially they have been changed to wet meadows of ass. Cnidion-venosi communities. Percentage within biogeographic regions: Pannonic 97.73%, Alpine 2.27%

4.2 Quality and importance

Site is one of the three most important areas in Slovakia for nesting of Porzana porzana, Botaurus stellaris, Milvus milvus, Falco cherrug, Milvus migrans, Ixobrychus minutus and is one of the five areas for nesting of Anas querquedula, Anas strepera, Netta rufina and Tringa totanus. Regularly winter here more than 20000 individuals of diferent species of Anser sp.. Regularly nest here more than 1% of national population of Alcedo atthis, Ficedula albicollis, Coturnix coturnix, Streptopelia turtur, Muscicapa striata, Riparia riparia, Circus aeruginosus, Ciconia ciconia and Sterna hirundo.
