Other Site Characteristics

Geological basement of the site consists of veporids in the eastern part and the tertiary volcanites in the central and western part of the site. Volcanic structure is displayed in an alternation of stable andesite nappes and flows with the layers of less stable tuffs and tuffites. In a consequence of depression and erosion processes a caldera originated in the central part of the area. Southern parts are represented with typical rural country-like type of settlement with a maintaned mosaic of extensively manged meadows, pastures, old orchards and arable patches.

4.2 Quality and importance

Site is one of the three most important areas in Slovakia for nesting of Lullula arborea and Lanius minor. Regularly nest here more than 1% of national population of Ficedula albicollis, Ficedula parva, Bonasa bonasia, Dryocopus martius, Picus canus, Picoides tridactylus, Crex crex, Dendrocopos leucotos, Pernis apivorus, Saxicola torquata, Coturnix coturnix
