Other Site Characteristics

The site represents the limestone mountainous area, sometimes with very rugged relief with cliffs, canyons and a variety of karst formations. The area is located in orographic units Chočské vrchy. Morphologically is divided into three subassemblies: Choč, Sielnické vrchy and Prosečné. It is situated on the border districts of Liptovský Mikuláš, Ruzomberok and Dolný Kubín. Forest communities represents spruce, fir and beech to a lesser extent. On the edge of the deforested areas are foothill meadows, pastures, fields and scattered urban habitats.

The site includes some other small scale protected areas: National Nature Reserve Choč, National Nature Reserve Kvačianska dolina, National Nature Reserve Prosiecka dolina, Nature Reserve Turícke dubiny and Nature Reserve Kunovo
