Other Site Characteristics

The site is a part of the Čachtický karst. It represents the top parts of Malé Karpaty Mts. with the deforested slopes around the Čachtický hradný vrch and Plešivec Hill. Both localities represents the land dominants with a high touristic attendance. In some parts, the forest habitats are more mixed with the non-native species - Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Austrian pine (Pinus nigra) as a result of afforestation on soil destroyed by erosion after grazing. Gradually, the native stands are regenerated and the non-native species are replaced with native ones.

4.2 Quality and importance

Xerothermic non-forest habitats on dolomites with a high biodiversity. The site represents the north border of the Dianthus lumnitzeri occurrence, the only locality of Hippocrepis emerus in the thermophilous oak forests in Slovakia and it is important for occurrence of Orchidaceae. It represents the northern part of the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area and it includes the Plešivec Nature Reserve and Čachtický hradný vrch National Nature Reserve.
