Other Site Characteristics

Complex of mainly the forest habitats on different substrates. The western part is represented especially by the Borinský karst with Prepadlé canyon valley. Numerous caves, drafts and headsprings. Non-karst parts of the site are represented especially by forests covered plateau in altitude 350 to 550 m a.s.l., from which the monadnocks as the isolated hills and short ridges built of the hardest crystaline rocks extend.

4.2 Quality and importance

Occurence of acidophilous oak-beech forests, scree woods and birch peatdland that are rare in Malé Karpaty Mts. Within the the territory of Borinský kras Karst, the caves not open to public and important for hibernation of bats occur. The site is a part of the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area and proposed Malé Karpaty SPA. It includes the Nad Šenkárkou, Pod Pajštúnom, Strmina and Zlatá studnička Nature Reserves and Limbašská vyvieračka Nature Monument.
