Other Site Characteristics

The site belongs to the geomorphological unit Záhorská nížina Lowland, subunit Borská nížina Lowland, part Záhorské pláňavy Plains. According to the Slovak phytogeographical categorization, it belongs to the area of the Pannonian flora (Pannonicum). The relief has been formed by the Quarternary fluvial and eolithic processes. There is also the habitat of national importance present: mire willow scrubs. It is important for the occurrence of several rare and endangered flora and fauna species in the site.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site represents an important anthropogenous habitat within the Záhorie region – fishponds with the occurrence of rare and endangered species. It is a unique sample of the beaver’s presence in the cultural land (spontaneous restoration of the wetland habitats in a consequence of the beaver´s activities).
