Other Site Characteristics

The site is situated on the fringes of Liptovská kotlina Basin and it is supplied by water from a local mineral spring known for its considerably high content of minerals. High mineral content of local waters determines the character of vegetation. Floristic communities foster several species of nationally protected plants as well as taxa listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants. Majority of the site is dominated by reedbeds of common reed Phragmites communis and shrubby willows; to a lesser extent wetland communities of distinctively herbaceous character are also present. These assemblages, however, must be protected by management measures from being altered by the invasion of species of secondary succession.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site belongs to the habitat type 1340* Inland salt meadows. This habitat is unique in terms of the Nízke Tatry / Low Tatras NP mosaic of natural habitats. Area of the site overlaps with the territory of nature reserve of national importance.
