Other Site Characteristics

The stream represents a good example of naturally meandering foothill stream surrounded by well-preserved riparian forests. The stream forms the natural boundary with Poland. Geological basement is formed by late Tertiary sediments of clay, sandstone and gravel. Basin upland represents the main type of topography featured in the area. The stream flows through widened V-shaped valley and creates rather distinct alluvial plain.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site lies within the borders of the Horná Orava SPA and Mokrade Oravskej kotliny / Wetlands of Orava Basin Ramsar Site. Conservation efforts on the site focus on protection of river otter Lutra lutra L. habitat and protection of the riparian vegetation of a typical natural watercourse of Oravská kotlina Basin.
