Other Site Characteristics

The site is represented by the Ublianka and Zbojský potok river streams in Bukovské vrchy Hills. The riverine communities bordering the river streams feature the occurrence of Matteutsia struthiopteris and Telekia speciosathat create the separate association characteristic only for Eastern Carpathians. In the natural river beds, the gravel sediments with the rich in species initial vegetation originate. Geological basement is formed by fluvial sediments of the Dukla unit. The streams belong to the so called grayling zone of Uh River in Zakarpatská Ukraine. This fact reflects in high biodiversity of the water stream (occurrence of 21 native fish species).

4.2 Quality and importance

1. Important site for protection of the alluvial riverine communities with the occurence of rare typical species Telekia speciosa and Matteutsia struthioperis. 2. Important site for protection of the initial plant communities on gravel sediments. 3. Important site for protection of high biodiversity of fishes. The site is located within the buffer zone of the Poloniny NP. From 1995, small part of the site is protected as a nature monument. In 1992, the whole site became a part of the International Biosphere Reserve Východné Karpaty. It overlaps with the proposed Bukovské vrchy SPA.
