Other Site Characteristics

The site is formed by flysch. Prominent geological features include the top sections of a narrow strip of limestone penetrating the upper flysch layer with characteristically steep slopes. Landslide areas are also well-represented on the site. The site represents an example of agricultural landscape featuring a rich mosaic of meadow, pasture, wetland, woodland and hedgerow habitats. The site is also typical for a scattered type of settlement.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site is situated within the territory of the proposed Malá Fatra SPA. The site is a part of the Nature Monument Bôrikova mláka and Nature Reserve Dubovské lúky. Meadow communities are typical for the occurrence of species Trollius altissimus. The site falls to the borders of the Malá Fatra NP buffer zone. The site fosters a rich mosaic of meadow, pasture and wetland habitats providing favourable conditions for the presence of several endangered species of plants. Notably rich are the local populations of Orchidaceae. The site also hosts the species Crex crex and Aquila chrysaetos. Typical rural landscape of the site is the result of the long term human intervention and traditional farming practices.
